Many of my readers, listeners, audiences and workshop students ask me this question\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do I communicate the value of my work to my stakeholders by telling my data story?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Excellent question.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the story that I\u2019m all too familiar with in how we present insights today:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Stakeholder asks you to come present campaign results at a leadership meeting. They want \u201canything you\u2019ve got.\u201d<\/li>\n
  2. You scramble to throw together 50 random charts and graphs in the hopes that something will stick.<\/li>\n
  3. You present your pile o\u2019 charts and observe a direct correlation between time elapsed during the presentation and your audience\u2019s Candy Crush Saga rankings.<\/li>\n
  4. And after the meeting…nothing happens. No one\u2019s really sure what happened, or what they should do about it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This story, in my humble opinion, sucks.<\/p>\n

    I was tired of that story for myself, so I invented a practical, tactical, and prescriptive approach that ensured my visuals answered business questions, inspired ideas, galvanized my stakeholders into action, and communicated my value.<\/p>\n

    The results?<\/p>\n

    Surviving layoffs and earning promotions.<\/p>\n

    More headcount.<\/p>\n

    Budget for site optimization and analytics capabilities.<\/p>\n
